Our Story
From blog to brand (2016)
Novel Carry started in 2016 as a simple blog and everyday‑carry lifestyle photo project—Derrick’s outlet to share his enthusiasm for well‑made gear and the EDC community.
The first product: SlideKick
That spark led to SlideKick, a compact 12‑in‑1 EDC multi‑tool. SlideKick launched on Kickstarter and was successfully funded with 322 backers pledging $29,643 (148% of goal) during the 2021 campaign.
Built from stainless steel or titanium, SlideKick stands out for its TSA‑compliant design, integrated magnetic 4 mm bit driver, and a clever internal storage compartment for micro bits, along with functions like a 1/4″ hex wrench, rulers, pry bar, and bottle opener, plus a pocket clip.
A pause, then a pivot
Life got busy and Novel Carry took a back seat for a while. A few years later, Derrick met Steve at work. They bonded over knives and tools, and together brought Novel Carry back - this time crafting custom knife scales and handles for the EDC crowd.
Where we are today
Today, Novel Carry designs premium fidget sliders and other everyday carry gear. We are recognized for our use of varied materials, clean timeless design, and the ability to be upgraded and enjoy our products for a lifetime.
Who we are
Both of us have been in Product Development for our entire careers, building products for large corporations that have gone on to sell hundreds of thousands of units (and sometimes more) in their lifetime. Together, we are a customer obsessed team focused on creating products that you'll love.
